How To Pressure Enemies in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth (FF7)

If you’re hoping to Pressure an enemy and put them into a state of despair, you’re going to need to either keep wailing on them with your weapon of choice, hit them with an elemental weakness, or satisfy a special criteria unique to that enemy. At the start of the game, you’ll acquire and equip the Assess Materia which allows you to scan an enemy to find their weaknesses to exploit.

Using the Assess Materia is incredibly valuable, as along with revealing an enemy’s weaknesses, you’ll often be given information on unique methods to pressure your foe. For instance, some enemies are only pressured when a specific attack is dodged, while others may only be pressured when attacked from behind.

As you continue to lay down the attack on your opponent, you’ll notice a gauge that continues building under their health, which is their Pressure/Stagger Bar. After inflicting enough damage, you’ll see a text pop up stating that the enemy has been Pressured. In a Pressured state, enemies will be confused and should take some extra damage while not attacking the player characters.

How To Stagger Enemies in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

Once you have done enough damage to an enemy in a Pressured state, you may eventually get them to Stagger. Some abilities, like Cloud’s Focused Thrust and Barret’s Focused Shot, are very efficient at increasing the Pressured gauge.

Once they are Staggered, battles become much more interesting and intense because you can deal some tremendous damage to your foes. Continue attacking with either your Triangle ability to build up extra ATB, or fight fast and furious with your standard attacks to increase the overall damage that they take by increasing percentages. Once the enemy recovers, you’ll see a quick blurb detailing how much damage has been done to a foe before they begin their offensive onslaught once again.

Now that you’ve got the basics of Pressuring and Staggering down, be sure to keep your eyes on our Final Fantasy VII Rebirth section below to learn more about the game and find out how to see and gain weapon proficiencies in this epic RPG.
