There’s a certain level of beauty in open-world games like Tears of the Kingdom that’s worth talking about. Right when you leave the tutorial area and complete your first shrine, you’re free to do whatever you want. Personally, I went to an ice area and froze to death a few dozen times before going back to warmer spots and figuring out what to do instead. During this odd TOTK adventure, I realized how important building is when traveling around the map and accessing particular areas. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Building Guide – How to Make a Log Bridge and More
Before you can start building bridges, ladders or other goofy things, you’ll first have to unlock Ultrahand from the first shrine. Following the tutorial, you’ll have to complete this shrine to progress through the main story. During this little adventure, you’ll get the Ultrahand ability, which you can activate by pressing L on your Nintendo Switch joycons/controller. From here, you can grab an object and move it around.
In the case of a log bridge or other wooden structures, you’ll have to find a place with trees and a stone axe. The first spot I found was at coordinates 0588, -1334, 1440, also known as the southeastern part of the map, on your way to Gutanbac Shrine. Here, you can pick up the axe, chop down trees and gather logs, which you can attach using your Ultrahand.

Why Make a Log Bridge in TOTK?
Alright, I’m here with the real question now: what’s the point of making it? Why would you ever have to do this when you can climb, fly and run around the map? There are two main reasons: convenience and fun.
I’ll use the example I talked about earlier. In that scary ice area, I started by making a bridge onto the cliff before going to one of the shrines. I could have attempted to find alternate paths or looked into elixirs to make climbing easier, but making a bridge was much more convenient. If you want to read my full story on how I navigated this adventure, be sure to check out how to climb ice walls in TOTK.
Now what about the second reason? Well, it’s all about having fun! As I was chatting with some coworkers, one of them showed us this crazy log bridge. It was great and gave me a few laughs, and this is mainly an excuse to share his hard work. Unfortunately, it doesn’t exist anymore, but it was enjoyable while it lasted.
Simply put, log bridges are a great way to traverse cliffsides without climbing them and expending stamina, and you only need some logs and your Ultrahand to make them.
