Before going out and searching for Primordy Oil, you’ll have to take the following steps to unlock the Resource Harvester:

  1. Head back to your Conservatory and go to the Fabricator.
  2. Under Updates, select the first option to find the Resource Harvester.

To upgrade the Resource Harvester, you need the following materials:

  • Newbucks x450 – Sell plorts at the Plort Market.
  • Cotton Plort x10 – Feed Cotton slimes to get these plorts. Give them Water Lettuce to get two plorts per lettuce.

If you don’t do this beforehand, you won’t be able to obtain the Primordy Oil even if you find some around the map.

After fabricating the Resource Harvester, you can start exploring the map for Primordy Oil. In particular, you want to make your way to Ember Valley since Rainbow Fields’ geysers contain Deep Brine instead. In Ember Valley, you’re looking for small geysers that shoot out a dark brown and purple liquid. You’ll pick up some oil after vacuuming the geyser with your vacpack. While you won’t get a ton, you’ll usually get around 2-3 Primordy Oil each time.

Once you get your first batch, head back to the Refinery and deposit the Primordy Oil. As long as you have enough Newbucks and other resources, you can now use your oil to fabricate decorations, warp tech or utilities that require it.

Slime Rancher 2 is available on PC and Xbox Series X|S through Steam and Game Pass. If you’re interested in learning more about the game, check out How to Unlock the Hydro Turret and How to Get Deep Brine in Slime Rancher 2.
