Top 5 Games to Play Until Dragon’s Dogma 2 is Out

Dragon’s Dogma

The most obvious choice on this list, since this is the direct prequel of Dragon’s Dogma 2. Of course, the first title will feel very different as it came out way back in 2012. However, you can try the enhanced version subtitled Dark Arisen on the PS4, Windows, Xbox One, and the Nintendo Switch.

Dragon’s Dogma is a perfect tribute to classic action RPGs and takes you to the land of Gransys. While it’s a purely single-player title, the world is full of NPCs who will provide you with company. Dragon’s Dogma regularly gets discounts as part of sales, so you could try it out for a fraction of its listed price.

Elden Ring

Elden Ring is an epic saga in its own right. It might have taken a lot of extra months for FromSoftware to deliver this classic but, in my book, Elden Ring was one of the best RPG releases of 2022. Yes, the game can become extremely frustrating like any true Souls game.

That said, Elden Ring is far more accessible than a few other titles like Bloodborne or Dark Souls. The game offers a lot more freedom to you in terms of which path you want to take. Like true RPGs, Elden Ring also allows you to create different builds, and like Dragon’s Dogma 2, it has an extremely detailed character creation system as well. You can try it out on any platform barring the Nintendo Switch.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim

Skyrim might be over a decade old, and The Elder Scrolls 6 is already planned, but that’s not coming out anytime soon. When you play The Elder Scrolls 5, it doesn’t feel like an old video game. I have always felt that Skyrim has been ahead of its time, and the plethora of available mods makes the overall experience ten times richer.

I don’t remember having so much freedom in decision-making as I have enjoyed in TES 5. In fact, there’s no right way to get things done in the game, and you can take your own approach. Unlike TES 6 (which might skip PlayStation), Skyrim is available on all platforms including the Nintendo Switch. Do note that completing Skyrim can take a lot of time, and possibly more than what it will require in the case of Dragon’s Dogma 2.

Baldur’s Gate 3

Baldur’s Gate 3 is and will be completely different from Dragon’s Dogma 2. As you wait for the upcoming launch, why not play the winner of multiple GOTYs of 2023? Baldur’s Gate 3 is arguably Larian’s finest work, and it has taken the studio to a new dimension altogether. The RPG often feels like a well-crafted novel, and every decision you make has an impact on your journey.

Even when you opt for a fully single-player experience, the NPCs feel like human compatriots. Like TES 5, you enjoy the utmost freedom when it comes to deciding the outcome of a particular quest. Whether you want to become a knight in shining armor or evil incarnate, the decision is yours. Baldur’s Gate 3 is available on Windows, PlayStation, and Xbox, and also offers plenty of QoL optimizations.

The Witcher 3

Released back in 2015, The Witcher 3 has witnessed plenty of post-launch content and even received a next-gen update. You come across plenty of interesting characters to interact with and monsters to slay as you travel as Geralt. Do note that The Witcher 3’s story is a direct sequel to 2011’s The Witcher 2. However, I never played the first two titles, but that didn’t reduce my enjoyment of The Witcher 3.

Thanks to the next-gen update from CDPR, the older visuals received a breath of fresh life. The optimization issues have now been resolved, but be aware – completing The Witcher 3 can take a lot of time. The quest system can often take you away from the main campaign, as there are some really interesting side missions along the way.
