Is Helldivers 2 Fun Solo? – Answered

Should you embark on your Helldivers 2 experience alone?

Helldivers 2 is the ultimate multiplayer shooter featuring plenty of exciting moments that are meant to be shared with friends. However, sometimes you just want to feel like Rambo or a solo action star — is Helldivers 2 the game for you?

Should You Play Helldivers 2 Solo?

As mentioned above, Helldivers 2 is a game that is supposed to be played with friends — but I would be lying if I said that it still wasn’t a blast to play on your own. During the initial wave of issues with Matchmaking, I spent plenty of time exploring the planets that were waiting to be liberated on my own and had a blast doing it.

There is nothing on the market quite like Helldivers 2 in both vibe and function, as you’ll be exploring a vast open zone full of hazards and threats that could easily make quick work of not only a Solo explorer but a whole squad. The first time you fight off a horde of creepy crawlers or robots on your own is when it finally hits that this game is something really special.

You’re going to face many more trials and tribulations while exploring on your own, especially if you choose to embark on more difficult missions. However, these skills can translate over to your multiplayer sessions, as you’ll have even more awareness of your surroundings to help your friends or a group of randoms that joined up with you. At this point, I have grown to enjoy both solo expeditions and multiplayer excursions, all with the quick change of party settings.

A Great Solo Build For Budding Explorers in Helldivers 2

If you’re hoping to survive on any planet while exploring on your own, I strongly recommend bringing the following Stratagems to help you survive any excursion:

  • Supply Pack
  • Gattling Sentry
  • Stalwart Machine Gun
  • Eagle Orbital Strike

These are unlocked by collecting Samples while exploring planets and can provide you with plenty of excellent Stratagems to keep you alive while venturing forward. In particular, I’ve grown extremely fond of the Supply Pack, as it will allow me to keep my items stocked while trying to avoid getting my Helldiver ripped limb from limb while facing off against a horde of bugs. The Stalwart LMG is also a great choice, as it offers a massive magazine and plenty of stopping power, all while letting you move while reloading. The Eagle Orbital Strike is great for closing up bug holes, and having a Sentry of any kind will ensure that you’ve got adequate backup for your extraction or any other situation.

Should You Only Play Helldivers 2 Solo?

While Helldivers 2 is a game that can be enjoyed Solo, the real meat and potatoes of the game lie within its multiplayer. Sure, it’s still a great feeling to get out of your own volition and explore anywhere that you’d like, but once you get a full squad assembled and things are moving like a well-oiled machine, there’s nothing quite like it on the market. I wouldn’t recommend only playing solo, but if you’re afraid of jumping into the multiplayer portion of the game, you’ll still find an engaging and exciting experience within its Solo content.
