How to Get Samples in Helldivers 2

A sample of freedom

Objectives aren’t the only part of Galactic War missions you must worry about in Helldivers 2. While you are tearing down the enemies of freedom, you need to be on the lookout for samples, and I can help you find them in this guide.

Common Samples can be found at most points of interest in a Galactic War mission, and rarer samples appear in higher difficulties. Any of the difficulty options from medium to trivial will only spawn the common variants. They aren’t as exciting, but you need them to make meaningful progress in the game.

When you land on the surface of a planet to take on your next Galactic Mission, simply explore the area around you. Look for any question marks on the compass at the top of your screen and follow them. Most of the time, these POIs will have a small abandoned outpost with some common samples that you can pick up.

Samples are always marked by a small circle with a line going down the center. Picking one up adds it to your overall mission inventory, and you need to successfully extract if you want to keep the latest supplies. Within the game’s early stages, I could only carry 14 samples at a time. It sounds low but is more than enough for one excursion, and you can even find some Super Credits on the way.

How to Use Samples in Helldivers 2

Samples of any kind can be used to upgrade your ship modules under the Ship Management screen. These aren’t cheap by any means, and the easiest upgrades to get can require 60 samples just to get started. I highly recommend exploring every single mission you try out so that you can streamline the upgrades to your ship.

Don’t forget to put those Medals you earned to use as well.
