Do you like New Atlantis? Like a lot? Or maybe you just really hate your accommodations at the Lodge? Either way, becoming a citizen of the United Colonies will offer you no shortage of boons. So long as you can pass a test. Here’s how to become a citizen of the United Colonies in Starfield.
Starfield: How to Join the United Colonies
Would you join the army if it meant you got a house? Plenty of people say “yes” to that question every day, and things haven’t really changed in the future. That’s because if you want to purchase your own house in the United Colonies planet Jameison (home to New Atlantis), you’ll need to be a member of the United Colonies.
Or maybe you just want to join because it gives you access to a series of new missions, credits, and exp. Whatever your reason, becoming a United Colonies citizen, on paper, is easy. You just need to join the United Colonies Vanguard and complete the related storyline.
Now, here’s an in-depth look at how to get started.
First, head to the MAST District in Jameison. If you opted to take the trolley, the building you’ll want to enter is right overhead. It’s giant, grey, and has the words “MAST” in front of it. For all others, it’s the building in the center of the MAST District, surrounded by water.
Once inside, speak to the man behind the front desk. This is Commander John Tuala, and he’s essentially a recruiter. By speaking to him, you can start the quest Supra Et Ultra. Go through the elevators beside John, and you’ll be able to start your flight test.

You’ll need to complete level 3 of the simulation to pass the test. Once you do, return to John to let him know the good news. He’ll then give you the option of signing up with the Vanguard.
Agree to do so, then follow him outside to take the oath. Note, save before you do this. I hit a bug that would cause John to not finish his dialogue, and the only way out was to load up an old save.
Once that’s done, John will assign you the quest “Grunt Work,” which will start a series of very interesting quests. I won’t delve too deeply, as the storyline and its related objectives are genuinely interesting and pretty fun. But expect a bit of a time investment.
Here are all the quests you’ll need to complete in order to gain United Colonies Citizenship:
- Supra Et Ultra
- Grunt Work
- Delivering Devils Eyewitness
- Friends Like These
Once the quest Friends Like These is completed, you’ll get United Colonies Citizenship and you can go ahead and purchase your new apartment! But if The Wells isn’t to your liking, don’t worry – there are accommodations all over.
