Starfield is out in less than a month, and there’s still no word of it going “gold”—not publicly, at least. This isn’t an abnormal occurrence, but it’s still leaving some fans anxious about what the state of the game will be at launch on September 6, 2023. Bethesda’s Head of Publishing, Pete Hines, has addressed these worries, claiming there’s absolutely nothing to be concerned about.
Starfield Worriers Should “Take a Deep Breath”
On August 11, 2023, a fan replied to a tweet (no, I will not be calling it x) that Hines was tagged in about Starfield’s marketing. “That’s cool but we want to know when the game is going gold and when is the pre download,” they wrote. “Cyberpunk did the same thing.”

Shortly after, Hines responded, stating that there is nothing to worry about, despite being three weeks away from the release date with no information on preloading. “Take a deep breath,” he said. “I have an amazing team. We know what we’re doing.”
It was previously thought that Starfield would be available for preload on August 9, 2023, following a “leak” on an Amazon US listing. This turned out to be misinformation.

If you’ve played (or, honestly, even just heard of) a Bethesda title, you’ll know that there’s a culture of sorts built around how buggy the studio’s games can be. So, for many, the anxieties about Starfield’s performance on release aren’t completely unwarranted.
For now, fans will simply have to wait and see how Starfield will turn out once it launches on PC and Xbox Series X|S on September 6, 2023.
