PSA: Prep Your Hard Drive for Starfield Because It’s Freaking Massive

All suited up with no space to go.

Starfield is out in less than a month, so it’s time to consider giving your PC or Xbox Series X|S a spring cleaning to make room for what we now know will take up a substantial portion of your hard drive.

Starfield’s File Size is Out of This World

I know what you’re thinking. “Starfield will be beefy? Thanks, Captain Obvious.” Well, there’s a big difference between a 75GB game and a 125GB one, depending on the size of your SSD, which is what Starfield is set to be on launch day, according to its Xbox and Steam store pages.

This rings especially true when you have multiple games taking up your storage. Or if you’re planning on storming the galaxy on your Steam Deck or ASUS ROG Ally. And even more so if you’ve dived into other recent releases, such as Diablo IV and Baldur’s Gate 3, which take up over 90GB and 125GB, respectively.

I don’t know about you, but it’s always a struggle trying to work out which games to axe from my SSD. What if I suddenly want to play this game I’ve had on here for two years and never touched? You simply never know. These decisions need time to be thought about.

Long story short, make sure you’ve got enough space before preloading begins to avoid any on-the-spot decisions when it comes to figuring out what to delete to make room for Starfield. I’d even advise leaving some extra space available for any possibly-hefty updates on or around launch day.

Starfield releases on Xbox Series X|S and PC on September 6, 2023.
