How to Get Machine Muscle in Horizon Forbidden West

You can get a ton of Machine Muscle in Horizon Forbidden West from general tasks, like taking down machines and looting the chests and crates found in old-world ruins. While the loot inside of chests is randomized, and you’re more likely to find other crafting resources, I found that taking down machines with stealth kills offered the most Machine Muscle for my time.

You especially want to focus on the Scrounger. Not only can you score a bunch of Machine Muscle by looting their corpse, but their storage tank—the weak point on its back—usually contains at least one or two more for your trouble. If you knock the container off, however, be sure to look around the area for its drop point. I lost a few in the tall grass because I wasn’t paying enough attention!

What is Machine Muscle Used For in Horizon Forbidden West?

You will need plenty of Machine Muscle in Horizon Forbidden West, primarily for crafting purposes, for the likes of:

  • Sharpshot Bow Ammunition
  • Blastsling Ammunition
  • Ropecasters
  • Shredder Gauntlets

You’ll find that, following a minor fight against a small group of Scroungers, you quickly run out of ammunition for your primary weapons. It’s nothing to blast through a quiver of 20 arrows in a single fight, then the unfortunate ‘No Ammo’ pop-up appears, and you frantically attempt to craft more.

It’s better to prepare ahead of time! This is also why I recommend learning how to heal in Horizon Forbidden West using a myriad of healing tonics and items.
