How to Heal in Horizon Forbidden West

A touch of healing goes a long way in this world!

The game teaches you relatively early on how to gather early-game healing items, but the berries you pick from the open world aren’t the only way to top up your health pool. Here is how to heal in Horizon Forbidden West.

How to Heal Yourself in Horizon Forbidden West

To heal yourself in Horizon Forbidden West, you either want to press ‘Up’ on the D-Pad to select Medicinal Berries and other food-based healing items or ‘Down’ on the D-Pad to select your various gadgets and potions. In this case, you want the Small Health Potion.

If your default gadget isn’t set to a Small Health Potion, you can rotate through your various items in this slot by hitting ‘Left’ or ‘Right’ on the D-Pad. Once you find the Small Health Potion, stop over it to equip the healing item to the slot. Then, once you’re ready, you can pop the Small Health Potion to heal 250 Health, with up to 188 Overheal. It’s quite a staggering sum for this early in the game, so you’ll likely only find one or two for now.

Where to Get Healing Items in Horizon Forbidden West

You can find healing items in Horizon Forbidden West scattered throughout the game world, with Medicinal Berries being the most common. They’re the blueberry-like bush growing around the landscape, but they only heal you for 84 Health. It’s not a lot, but it’s enough to get you by for now.

But if you want Health Potions, you’ll have to loot old-world ruins and crates. The various crates spread in and around ruins typically hold all manner of valuable crafting items, and some even contain Small Health Potions.

Trust me when I say that you’ll want plenty of healing items when tackling the new machines in Burning Shores!
