All Released Information and Speculation About The Sims 5

During the first ever Behind The Sims Summit, we heard very limited information about Project Rene, colloquially known as The Sims 5. We learned about its existence and some of the apartment customization features available in its early stages of development.

With these customization options came choosing the base design of a furniture item, followed by using a color wheel to pick its colors and saturation and patterns to add some flair. We also learned that we can share our creations through an online gallery, similar to The Sims 4.

While the second Behind The Sims Summit released some additional information, it’s still limited.

Released Information During the January Behind The Sims Summit

The second Summit revealed that, although Project Rene is years away from being completed, it’ll open for public playtesting early on for us to give feedback on and learn about its new mechanics. Despite this, Project Rene is still in its early stages of development, meaning we probably won’t see any official releases this year. The first Summit supports this idea with updates becoming available “over the next couple of years”, meaning it’ll be a while before we get a release date.

With this in mind, though, it was reiterated that The Sims 5 would launch on PC and mobile, with the intent of being able to interchange between the two easily without conflict. Making sure PC-to-mobile changes are smooth and don’t cause any major issues is likely one of the reasons why The Sims 5 will take slightly longer to release.

Another noteworthy tidbit the Summit explained is that, although it will not be an MMO, Project Rene will feature multiplayer components that allow us to invite others to play alongside us. However, if we want to stick to single-player, we’ll also have the option to play solo.

Project Rene, also known as The Sims 5, will be available on multiple platforms, including PC and mobile. If you’d like to learn more about its predecessor, check out What Are the Motive Trials in the Sims 4 and Where to Find Hiking Trails in The Sims 4: Snowy Escape.
