The lack of modes in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has been one of the biggest complaints from players since the game launched in late October 2022. Since then, only a few additions have been made, but now we know for sure that Infected mode is on the way in MW2.
Infinity Ward has already confirmed entire playlists like Ranked Play and a dedicated Hardcore section that goes beyond the Tier 1 we’ve had. Thanks to some recent tweets directly from Call of Duty, we know Infected is right around the corner, and the release date is a good one.
COD Modern Warfare 2 – When Does Infected Release?
Based on recent tweets from the Call of Duty Twitter account, we know that the official release date for Infected is February 15, 2023. One fan on Twitter said that playing Infected with friends is one of the greatest feelings in the world, and with the right group, he’s not wrong. The Call of Duty Twitter replied to the user in agreement and a release date.
February 15 happens to be the date of the Season 2 launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2, which shouldn’t come as a surprise. The upcoming season was delayed by two weeks after some declining players and major changes that Infinity Ward wanted to implement to both aspects of the game; multiplayer and Warzone.

For those who have never played, Infected puts a bunch of players in a lobby with some weapons and equipment. One player, who is infected, gets a melee knife and a throwing knife. Anyone that this infected player kills will also become infected. If every survivor becomes infected, the “zombies” win the game. When the survivors can last the round, the Infected lose. We’ll see if all the same rules apply in COD: Modern Warfare 2 Season 2.
