There is more to BitLife than meets the eye. When you create your character, you will see stats like health, happiness, and smarts. However, as you dive deeper into the game, you’ll find others like fertility, karma, and willpower. One of the most mysterious stats is discipline, as the game doesn’t directly explain its meaning or influence on your character’s life. What Does Discipline Do in BitLife?
In BitLife, discipline plays a role in your character’s school and work performance, as well as how easily they develop addictions. Characters with high discipline achieve higher performance overall, while those with low discipline are likelier to slack off or become addicted to substances.
To put this into perspective, I created two characters: one with maximum discipline and 60% smarts and another with zero discipline and 80% smarts. By the time they entered school, the max-discipline character had higher school performance than the one with none!

As the two characters reached adulthood, I took them to nightclubs. The character with zero discipline became addicted to alcohol after the third offer. The one with maxed-out discipline, on the other hand, never became addicted, even after trying it on five occasions. While my later attempts proved that a highly disciplined character can still become addicted to substances, it’s much more challenging than someone with none.
How to Increase Discipline in BitLife
If you have BitLife’s God Mode, you can directly change this stat from the New Life menu. In the attributes menu, you’ll find all kinds of different stats, from happiness and health to smarts and willpower. Among these is discipline, which can be modified using the slider.
Another method to increase discipline is through meditation! Meditating allows you to influence various stats, including discipline. As well, if your character has developed an addiction, meditating gives a chance to overcome it.
