Important locations, like cave entrances, are automatically marked on your map in Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. After playing for some time, you may wonder why only some of your caves have a checkmark and what that means.

What Are Cave Checkmarks in Tears of the Kingdom?
If you see a checkmark beside a cave entrance on your map, you’ve found and collected the Bubbul Gem inside. This phenomenon only occurs on cave indicators, not wells or other locations, meaning you can expect to see a Bubbulfrog in every cave.
If a cave seems too small to have a Bubbulfrog, take a moment to look around for any rocks that can be moved with your Ultrahand ability or rocks that you can break. Removing these obstacles will often reveal a more extensive area where more ore deposits, chests, and the Bubbulfrog are hiding. If you’re having trouble tracking them down, you can set your Sensor+ ability to help you find them.
While they may be challenging to track down, Bubbulfrogs aren’t hard to defeat. A hit with an arrow or other thrown item will knock the frog-like creature down. It will slowly fade, leaving behind a scampering Blupee and a Bubbul Gem.
Once you’ve found and defeated the Bubbulfrog, you can collect the Bubbul Gem, which will then add the checkmark to your map. There are a few caves with multiple entrances. However, there is only one Bubbulfrog per cave. In these cases, each entrance will get the corresponding check mark.
