Nightingale focuses on PvE exploration and adventure, with a heavy emphasis on survival and crafting mechanics, and there won’t be a PvP mode against human players in the game. That said, the studio still opts for as many accessibility features in Nightingale as possible, allowing everyone to partake whenever possible.

Sadly, the team did state that “those with low or no vision may find the game challenging without assistance.” They did include a few visual accessibility options to help, along with general difficulty settings, an autosave feature, key remapping, partial controller support, run toggle, toggle crouch, mouse sensitivity, inverted controls, custom waypoints, controller dead zone tweaks, and map zoom.

For the PC community, these are welcome additions to any new release.

Visual Accessibility Options in Nightingale

Personally, as someone with severe arachnophobia (I couldn’t play Grounded!), I’m ecstatic about a few of these visual accessibility tweaks.

  • Arachnophobia Mode: Removes the legs from Spider and Scorpion creatures, replacing them with wings. They retain the original audio, and VFX is swapped with ant models.
  • Third-Person: You can swap between first-person and third-person, over-the-shoulder camera modes.
  • Disable Motion Blur: The ability to disable motion blur is a default setting in the menu.
  • FOV Sliders: Adjust your field of view.
  • Brightness: Adjust brightness up or down.
  • Disable Camera Shake: Remove the camera shake when players move or take damage.
  • Audio Subtitles: Subtitles for voiced characters in the game.
  • Head Bob: By default, the team disabled head-bobbing in first and third-person view modes. (Thank you!)

Communication Accessibility Options

Lastly, the studio revealed a handful of communication accessibility options for when you’re playing with a party. These include:

  • Party Text Chat
  • Party Voice Chat
  • Emotes
  • Mute
  • Speech-to-Text Input

As you can see, developer Inflexion Games went to great lengths to ensure their survival crafting game, Nightingale, offered plenty of ways to play for the whole community.
