Some say the world will end in fire...

Of course, the bird wreathed in flame would appear in the hottest place in Paldea! Here’s how to find Moltres in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet: Indigo Disk.

Pokemon Indigo Disk: How to Get Moltres in Scarlet & Violet

To get Moltres to appear in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, you’ll need to complete the Indigo Disk campaign. Once that’s done, speak to Snacksworth, who will appear at the Blueberry Academy Entrance. Snacksworth is a chef and adventurer who will give you Legendary Treats depending on how many BBQs you’ve completed, with a new Legendary Treat being available for every 10. Each treat you receive will be associated with a Legendary Pokemon, which will then appear in Paldea.

To get Moltres’ Legendary Treat, I needed to complete 100 BBQs.

Once you receive the Legendary Treat, Snacksworth will give you a hint about where that Legendary Pokemon will be. For Moltres, our hint is that Snacksworth encountered it while rock-climbing in Western Paldea in an area with plenty of sandstorms.

Of course, he’s talking about the Asado Desert. Fly to the Asado Desert Watchtower waypoint and then head immediately North. You’ll hit a rock wall. Climb it and reach the top. There, you’ll find Moltres.

How to Beat Moltres in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

Moltres has gained a new Typing since its Generation 1 iteration. Now, it’s a Flying- and Fire-Type, and you’ll encounter it at level 70. Water, Electricity, and especially Rock attacks will be very effective against it. Rock receives a 4x damage boost.

Moltres’ moves are:

  • Overheat
  • Hurricane
  • Sky Attack
  • Endure

A Pokemon that can endure both Fire and Flying attacks is ideal here. And though Iron Hand isn’t particularly strong against Fire, I found that its huge health pool and high defense meant that it could casually shrug off Moltres while I dumped a pile of Ultra Balls on it.

However, the real struggle here is not fighting it while a Sandstorm is in the area. Sand storms are a common weather condition in the Asado Desert, and you can’t tell if there’s one happening by the brown-colored wind which will stain your clothes. Sandstorm will slowly whittle away Moltres’ health, so it’s good to wait for this weather condition to pass.

Now that you’ve tamed the fire, why not burn through the ice and get Articuno, too?
