Pokemon Indigo Disk: How to Get Articuno in Scarlet & Violet

What a throwback! Articuno is one of the earliest Legendary Pokemon, and you can find it in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet if you have the Indigo Disc DLC.

First, you’ll need to complete the main game’s campaign, then complete Indigo Disk’s storyline. Once you’ve done that, approach Snacksworth, at the Blueberry Academy Entrance.

Snacksworth will give you legendary Pokemon snacks depending on how many BBQ quests you’ve completed. For every 10 BBQ quest completions, you’ll get a new Snack. I received the Articuno Snack after completing 20 BBQ quests.

Once you have the Articuno Snack, Snacksworth will tell you that he saw Articuno in the mountains of Paldea near a waterfall. To find this location, head to Montenvera.

When you’ve arrived, head immediately west. Follow the river downstream and you’ll wind up in a pond at the base of the waterfall you’ve jumped down.

To the right of this pond will be Articuno. Articuno won’t be aggressive when you first encounter it, so you can set up your team accordingly.

How to Beat Articuno in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

Articuno is a dual Ice and Flying-Type Pokemon and you’ll encounter it at level 70. It’s very weak to Fire, Rock, Electricity, and Steel.

Articuno’s moves are as follows:

  • Sheer Cold
  • Haze
  • Blizzard
  • Hurricane

However, because Articuno is so much weaker than the Pokemon you encounter in the Indigo Disk, the real issue may be keeping it alive so you can catch it. For that, I recommend using not very effective moves, like Bug-Type, Grass-Type, or Water-Type moves.

I found Volcarona was especially useful in this fight. It’s immune to Sheer Cold, Blizzard does very little damage, and you can chip away at Articuno’s health with Bug Buzz. However, Hurricane can prove to be deadly for this flame moth.

So long as you have a Pokemon that can endure Articuno’s ice attacks, you should be able to whittle this bird down to size.
