Crafting in Last Epoch is a little different when compared to other ARPGs, and it can be confusing once the idea of Forging is introduced. To help you get started on making the best gear, I have a full crafting guide for you to make use of.
How to Craft in Last Epoch
You can craft in Last Epoch by opening the Forge screen with “F” and then adding any Runes or Glyphs to a desired item. The process is less of a crafting mechanic and more of a modifier so that you can get the exact gear you want for a build. Every single weapon and armor piece in the game, outside of unique drops, can be Forged to have new traits or more powerful bonuses. Simply drag or right-click the item you want to modify when you have the Forge screen open. This will place the item in the center and present a few options you can change.
Before you start the crafting process though, you need plenty of materials. Unlike games such as Diablo 4, you won’t get materials from existing gear in most cases. All crafting materials will drop as loot when you open chests, complete quests, or kill bosses. The two most important crafting materials are Glyphs and Runes. These can be placed into an infinite bag with a simple button in your inventory. From there, you can see all your options in the Forge.
Keep in mind that these don’t translate to options for crafting entirely new items. Most ARPGs require you to find the items you want and Forging just gives you the option to make them even better. Last Epoch is no different in that regard.
What is Forging Potential in Last Epoch
Forging potential is the number that indicates how many modifications can be made to an item. Each Shard or Rune that you add to your gear in the Forge will cost some potential. Once that number reaches zero, there are no more affixes or changes you can add to the item. At this point, you can either Salvage the gear for old parts or make changes to the existing Runes.
Crafting Materials in Last Epoch:
- Shards – These are the Affixes that you add to your armor and weapons. They are the most common crafting drops and can range anywhere from more damage to more defense.
- Runes – In the crafting process, Runes are used for tasks such as filling out Affixes, salvaging gear, or rerolling the item itself.
- Glyphs – As support materials, Glyphs simply make the crafting process easier. There are only four and they assist in maintaining the Affixes you like on a piece of gear.
Runes and Glyphs are what you need to make the crafting process more reliable. However, it’s the Shards that will dictate exactly what your gear can do. Simply grind through Last Epoch and you will continue to earn the materials you need for the Forge.
How to Salvage Items in Last Epoch
You can use a Rune of Shattering in the Forge to salvage items in Last Epoch, but it should be reserved for rare gear that you want to make use of. Salvaging gear is not part of the main crafting loop in the game and is reserved for late-game builds at max level. As you level up, most gear that you find on the ground should be ignored unless you want to use it or you plan on modifying it.
If you find an item with Legendary Potential, you may want to keep it intact.
