How to Save in Hogwarts Legacy

Magic won't get your progress back.

Plenty of spells exist in the Wizarding World, but none of them are going to save your game for you in Hogwarts Legacy. This game is massive and you’ll be sinking dozens of hours to finish everything in the game, so you’ll need to know how to save the game if you don’t want to lose your progress.

Every game has its own method of saving, whether it’s manual, a mechanic like the Bonfire, or checkpoints. Hogwarts Legacy has two forms of progress saves as you play through, but manual saving will be your best friend. Make sure to read through our guide so you know how to preserve your progress any time you play.

Hogwarts Legacy – How to Save

Fortunately for all of us, the save system is super simple and super easy to use. In Hogwarts Legacy, the main save system is a manual save that can be done at nearly any time in the game. To initiate a save, press start or open up the main settings menu. The very first tab in the settings menu will have all of the save, load, and exit options you need.

When you select the “Save Game” option, you’ll be given open slots that you can choose to hold your progress. Be careful though, because you can overwrite the same save slots if you’re not careful. Extra slots can be used for different characters or if you want to save scum as you look for gear and traits in Hogwarts Legacy.

As you casually play through the game, you will also have autosaves that pop up at the bottom of the screen. These won’t appear in your manual save slots, but if you die or your game crashes, these autosaves can save you a ton of time. Otherwise, you won’t need to worry about any other save mechanics in Hogwarts Legacy.
