How to Plant the SOS Beacon in Dead Space Remake

I need an SOS for my SOS beacon.

Dead Space Remake has a ton of objectives along the main story for you to complete. Most of these objectives are straightforward, often letting you use a line on the ground to find your way. Others are a little more obscure and tend to rear their head during the side missions. For one particular step during the main mission list, you might run into some issues. Here’s how to plant the SOS beacon in Dead Space Remake.

Where to Plant the SOS Beacon in Dead Space Remake

This objective comes up during Chapter 7: Into the Void. After clearing out the Mining deck and picking up the SOS beacon, you’ll need to plant it on a giant asteroid tethered to the Ishimura and send it out into space. The problem is, once you get in the room, there’s no place the game tells you to plant the SOS beacon. This naturally leads to a lot of confusion, especially with nothing to go off of at first.

The reality is that you don’t have to plant the SOS beacon inside at all. Instead, you’ll need to go into zero gravity and make your way through the small area in between the asteroid and the ship to get outside. Spiky half-circles are spinning around the asteroid, so be sure to avoid these unless you want a quick death. Once you make it out into space, there will be a spot to plant the SOS beacon in the dead center. Do so, and you’ll be able to proceed with the next task of the mission.

While the SOS beacon is a little obscure, it isn’t the most obscure “puzzle” in the game. There are plenty of other moments where the game doesn’t give as much guidance as it frankly should. Still, for all the things the game gets right, it’s fine to let some things like that slide.
