What is the Year in the Dead Space Remake?

The Dead Space Remake is set in the year 2508, according to the game’s official website, which provides a trove of interesting lore and backstory for the world. The history of Dead Space spans approximately 300-400 years from the 23rd through 26th centuries. The story begins with humanity facing a myriad of crises, from resource shortages to political unrest in the 23rd century, which led “bold pioneers and wealthy corporations to rapidly expand into space, founding colonies on new worlds.” Resource shortages? Wealthy corporations funding space travel? That all seems pretty far-fetched if you ask me, but I digress.

According to the lore, the 25th century saw the beginning of the Resource Wars between space colonies over, you guessed it, resources. However, thankfully, the conflict was resolved by the development of planet-cracking ships like the USG Ishimura, which could sate the resource needs of space colonists across the galaxy. And they all lived happily ever after… until sixty years later, in the year of our game, 2508, when the USG Ishimura cracked an unassuming planet called Aegis VII, which is where the events of Dead Space begin.

So there you have it, folks. Thankfully, the bleak future of Dead Space is still many years away and in the meantime, we don’t have to worry about pandemics, political unrest, wars, environmental catastrophe, or dwindling resources until at least the 23rd century. Too bad for those people in the future, though…
