How to Get the TMP SMG in the Resident Evil 4 Chainsaw Demo

Where is the submachine gun in the Resident Evil 4 Demo?

Resident Evil 4’s Chainsaw Demo is an excellent, free way for players to test out whether Capcom’s upcoming survival horror remake is the right game for them. Along with providing some early game tutorials and combat, the demo features a variety of scary enemies to find, items to craft, and weapons to discover. While some guns are hidden in plain sight, many might be surprised to learn that there is a secret submachine gun or “SMG” hidden within the demo that only the most eagle-eyed gamers will discover. Here is how to find the TMP SMG in the Resident Evil 4 Chainsaw Demo.

In order to find the TMP SMG, use the following process:

Step One: Dump Your Supplies Before You Open the Church Gate

Before you enter the gate with the church (and many enemies), you must discard EVERY SINGLE ITEM in your inventory.

Open your inventory, and select “discard” for each item. Everything you discard will be lost forever, leaving Leon with nothing to defend himself in the challenging area ahead. Once you have given away all of Leon’s earthly possessions, head through the gate, which will lock behind you.

Step Two: Follow the Right Side Path Until You Find a Well

Once inside the sprawling location, you will find dozens of Ganados (AKA Plagas-infected enemies) mumbling to themselves and strolling about in the muddy terrain. Stealth is imperative in this section, as you don’t have any weapons to defend yourself or health items, so try your best not to be seen. You must follow the fenced path on the right side, as seen in the image above. Either wait for the path to be clear, or sneakily follow one of the female Ganados.

Continue along the path, then follow the fence to the left side. You can sprint or crouch, as no enemies are near.

Eventually, you will find a well with red herb nearby on the left hand side. Descend into the darkness of the cavern below using the ladder.

Step Three: Locate the Blue Chest

The well is very dark, but thanks to Leon’s trusty flashlight, it is easily navigable. There are multiple crates, and an ornate blue chest.

Inside the chest is the TMP SMG. Don’t forget to break open the nearby crates to find a knife, ammo, and more supplies. Unfortunately, despite the name “submachine gun,” the weapon is not a sandwich that fires lethal rounds, nor is it a machine gun that fires sandwiches. As cool as either of those would be, the TMP SMG featured in Resident Evil 4 is far more useful when it comes to surviving the many dangerous enemies above ground.

Climb your way back to the surface and engage the enemies using your new submachine gun. Make sure to aim for the Ganados’ heads, as a quick succession of SMG fire can stagger them or put the fanatics down altogether. This is a particularly useful tactic against the Chainsaw man, the most fearsome enemy encountered in the demo (hence the name “Chainsaw Demo”).
