Zenless Zone Zero is the latest free-to-play title from miHoYo, and it’s already one of the biggest releases of 2024. The game is available on multiple platforms, including PS4, mobile devices, and PC, which it runs great on. While the performance is excellent on a variety of hardware, some technical issues are holding back the release. If you’re constantly getting a grey screen while trying to play Zenless Zone Zero, here is how you can fix that.
Fixing the Zenless Zone Zero Grey Screen Issue
To fix the Zenless Zone Zero grey screen issue, you need to install the Media Feature Pack if you’re using an N edition Windows.
The Media Feature Pack is required to play a variety of video files, especially in games. Since N editions of Windows don’t come with the Media Feature Pack, you need to install it manually.
There are two ways to install the Media Feature Pack on Windows.
Install the Pack in Windows
You can directly download the pack through Windows.
- In Windows search, type “Manage optional features” and open it
- Press on the “Add a feature” button
- Search for “Media Feature Pack”
- Install it and restart your PC
This will automatically download and install the media pack required by Zenless Zone Zero.
Download the Pack and Install It
If you can’t see the media pack in the search, you can download it directly from Microsft’s website. Simply select the current Windows version and download the pack. Install the pack, and restart your PC.
After you’re done, launch Zenless Zone Zero again. It should work normally now without any grey/gray screen. If that didn’t work, try the following troubleshooting recommendations:
- Make sure you have the latest GPU drivers: NVIDIA, AMD, Intel
- Update DirectX and Visual C++ Redistributables
- Switch to your dedicated GPU if you’re playing on a laptop
Once you’re in the game though, we recommend checking out how you can unlock the photo mode, and access all your shots. For more on Zenless Zone Zero, make sure to check out our dedicated section.
