How to Evolve Rhydon in Pokemon Sword and Shield

So, you’re wanting to evolve your Rhydon into a Rhyperior. Well, join the club, mate. First, you’re going to need an item called a Protector in order to turn your Rhydon into its final evolution form, and there are actually two ways that you can get your hands on this item so there’s no need to fret if one seems a little inconvenient for you at the time of reading this guide. We’ve outlined both methods below for your reference and given little tips on them.

  • Route 9 – You can head to Route 9 to find a Protector, though you’re going to have to follow some directions. Take to the water by Circhester Bay and cycle past all of the Trainers who would do battle with you until you reach one lad by a post. Loop around him and keep going on the right side until you find a Pokeball sitting pretty with no one claiming it. This Pokeball is your golden ticket – it contains a Protector.
  • Hammerlocke Pokemon Center – You’re only really going to be able to get a Protector this way if you’ve basically clocked the game because you’re going to need Battle Points which are gained from doing well in the Battle Tower activity (this doesn’t unlock til you’re done with the story). However, as long as you have 10 BP, you can speak to a Watt Trader girl in this Pokemon Center who will sell you a Protector for 10 BP. Handy!

Once you have your hands on a Protector, the important step is as follows: you have to get your Rhydon to hold it, then trade it to someone else for it to become a Rhyperior. That’s it! As easy as chucking this item onto your Pokemon and sending it off to a mate that you trust who’s going to send this rocky boy back to you once the process is done. We reckon the latter shouldn’t be that hard to find.

Now that you have our guide on how to evolve Rhydon in Pokemon Sword and Shield, it should be a little easier for you to acquire the beast that is Rhyperior. There’s been much ado about this Pokemon recently, and I mean, if it’s good enough for some of your end-game opponents then it’s certainly good enough to make the cut for your Isle of Armor DLC team.
