While the Fletchling to Fletchinder change requires a fairly low level to initiate the evolution, the requirements for getting Talonflame are slightly higher. While not unreasonably high, you’ll need to get your Fletchinder to at least level 35. However, you won’t have to get the Pokemon to hold any items or reach a certain friendship level. Below are some ways you can start raising your Fletchinder’s level:

  • Fight Pokemon in regular battles. If you want more EXP per fight, you can also fight Overworld trainers or difficult enemies like Gym Leaders and Team Star bosses.
  • Auto-battle wild Pokemon using the R button on your controller. Doing this will send out the Pokemon in your first party slot. While this gives less experience per battle, you’ll skip the fights themselves.
  • Use EXP Candies for instant experience boosts. (Bag > Other Items > EXP Candies)

Upon reaching level 35, your Rotom Phone will appear on the screen, followed by the Fletchinder to Talonflame evolution!

Where to Find Talonflame in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

Unless you’re in the end-game and can access Area Zero in the Great Crater of Paldea, you’re unlikely to encounter Talonflame in the wild. Despite Talonflame spawning here alongside other rare Pokemon, the chances of finding it in other regions are very low. However, if you don’t want to spend your hard-earned candies or time on grinding levels, you can try your luck here after finishing the main storyline.
