PlayStation users sometimes try to get around the region’s time-zone restrictions for certain games. Changing your region on your PlayStation 4 or 5 can let you play some games early if they have already been released somewhere like New Zealand. Here’s how to change your region on the PlayStation 5.
How to Change your Region on the PS5
To be clear, you can not change the region of an existing PlayStation account. You will have to make a new account on your PlayStation. So if you’ve already purchased the game on your main account, you would need to purchase it again on the freshly made account.
Here are the steps for making a new PlayStation account
- Press the PlayStation button on your controller
- Click Add User
- Click Get Started
- Push the “Create a New Account” option
- Select the country or region you’re trying to get into
- Choose your preferred language
- Look up the zipcode of the region you have chosen
- Make a new email account that isn’t already linked to a PlayStation account.
Once you have the new account and the region selected, you’ll be able to play games that are out in the selected area.

Now you’ll be able to play games in the newly selected region. If you’re trying to get past the time zone restrictions, that’s how you’ll have to do it. Luckily, if you haven’t purchased the game yet, and don’t mind playing on a fresh PlayStation file, you’ll be all good to go.
