Today, Sony announced via the PlayStation Blog that starting this month, PlayStation 5 will begin offering cloud streaming services for certain supported PS5 titles in the pool of PlayStation Plus Game Catalog and Game Trials. Certain PS5 games outside of these titles may also be supported. This means that PS5 owners subscribed to PlayStation Plus Premium will be able to stream these titles as opposed to downloading them.
“Today we have more details to share about PS5 cloud streaming for PlayStation Plus Premium members. Starting this month, we will begin launching cloud streaming access for supported PS5 digital titles within the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog* and Game Trials*, as well as supported titles in the PS5 game library that PlayStation Plus Premium members own.”
Sony, October 11, 2023
Sony has not set a specific date for the rollout of PS5 cloud streaming. They have admitted that it is quite the undertaking and therefore have just provided rough dates that they hope to have cloud streaming ready for in the region.
• Japan – October 17
• Europe – October 23
• North America – October 30
Sony stated that PlayStation Plus Premium Members will have hundreds of PS5 titles that will be able to be streamed. So far, the released list is small, but a sign of things to come.
- PlayStation Plus Game Catalog Titles – Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Horizon Forbidden West, Ghost of Tsushima, Mortal Kombat 11, and Saints Row IV.
- PlayStation 5 Game Trials – Hogwarts Legacy, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and The Calisto Protocol.
- PlayStation 5 Titles Outside of the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog – Resident Evil 4, Dead Island 2, Genshin Impact, Fall Guys, and Fortnite.
On top of this, there is a vast array of quality-of-life improvements that will be implemented alongside this addition:
- Games that can be streamed will also have the DLC and other in-game purchases available to be streamed as well.
- A variety of resolution options: 4K, 1440p, 1080p, and 720p, with 60 FPS and SDR or HDR output.
- Support for all PS5 audio capabilities with enhanced audio.
- Players will be able to record up to three minutes of video and take screenshots which will be saved to the PS5 console and the PS app.
Be on the lookout for when cloud streaming drops for PlayStation Plus Premium members. With tentative launch dates set for Japan, Europe, and North America, it won’t be long until players around the world will be able to stream many games from the PlayStation 5 library.
