The Blackgaol Knight is located in the Western Nameless Mausoleum within the Gravesite Plain, the first area of the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. It is west of the Scorched Ruins Site of Grace and northwest of the first site in the expansion.

The little mausoleum is surrounded by worms and flying enemies that can be safely ignored by riding past them on horseback. Entering the fog door of the mausoleum only contains the boss room, so there is no dungeon before this fight.

The Blackgaol Knight can be a formidable foe for players just starting out in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. The enemy can strike fast and hard with both close-range and ranged attacks.

The Knight’s only ranged attack is an automatic crossbow that can be dodged by running around in a circle, allowing players to get a few hits in to close the gap. Multiple arrows in a row can end the fight right there.

The best option to hit him in close range is with a heavy weapon, such as Hammers or Greataxes. A heavy weapon hit will interrupt his attack, and potentially leave him open for another hit. The Knight can take out players in just a few hits with jump attacks, overhead sword combos, and shooting a vertical arc of light.

Players will not be able to summon any Spirit Ashes for the battle, so the best bet is to keep dodging and interrupting his attacks. He will also heal a bit about halfway through the battle, but only once.

Defeating the Blackgaol Knight will reward with the Greatsword of Solitude, the enemy’s sword, alongside the full Solitude armor set. It is a great set for heavy armor users to start the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC with if up for the early challenge.
