Elden Ring players must first defeat Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood bosses before the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion can be started. The first is a major boss that must be fought to reach the end of the game, while the other is an optional boss found in the late game. Players only have to beat these two bosses and not the main quest line to access the DLC.

Starscourge Radahn can be found at Redmane Castle in Caelid and there are two methods to trigger the boss fight after defeating Rennala, Queen Of The Full Moon. The first is to reach the Altus Plateau region through the Grand Lift of Dectus, while the second method is speaking to Preceptor Seluvis at the Three Sisters sub-region of Liurnia of the Lakes. Either will trigger the festival and the first boss fight necessary for the DLC.

Fighting Mohg, Lord of Blood requires players to travel to the Dynasty Mausoleum in Mohgwyn Palace. Players can get there by completing the White Mask Varre’s quest and instantly transporting there with the Pureblood Knight’s Medal.

Another method is through the teleporter on the western side of the Consecrated Snowfield. The area can be accessed through the Grand Lift of Rold, but requires the two parts of the Haligtree Secret Medallion for the lift to take you there.

The Right Haligtree Secret Medallion is found by speaking to Albus, disguised as a pot, near the Village of the Albinaurics Site of Grace. The Left Haligtree Secret Medallion is found on the tower roof in Castle Sol of the Mountaintops of the Giants region.

After both bosses have been defeated, players can access the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC by returning to the Mohg, Lord of Blood boss fight room in Mohgwyn Palace. A large cocoon will now be placed in front of the Cocoon of the Empyrean Site of Grace.

Interact with the arm hanging out of the cocoon and choose “Touch the withered arm” to transport you to the new DLC area. Interact with the nearby Site of Grace and players can simply fast travel between the main game and DLC area whenever.
