You can get the Everburn Blade by defeating Commander Zhalk on the Nautiloid ship. This section of the game serves as a prologue to the full adventure ahead of you, and you won’t be able to return after the prologue is over.

That means you need to take care of Commander Zhalk in the final room of the Nautiloid ship. Once you use the console and the ship goes down, your chance to grab the Everburn Blade has gone out the window.

How to Defeat Commander Zhalk in Baldur’s Gate 3

To beat Commander Zhalk, you need to utilize the Mind Flayer for as long as you have him. That makes using your turns to heal the Mind Flayer your best course of action. They will do much more damage than you and they hold all of the attention of Zhalk while they are still alive.

Not every class has the luxury of spamming out some heals on the Mind Flayer though. In that case, it’s in your best interest to close in on the Commander and do as much damage as possible with Lae’zel and your character.

On Explorer mode, this will still be tough, but it’s more than possible. For modes like Balanced or Tactician, the fight is much more difficult. You have limited resources and characters at your disposal. The boss is optional at the end of the day, but the Everburn Blade is a weapon you don’t want to miss.

Is the Everburn Blade Worth Getting in BG3?

Yes, without a Shadowheart of a doubt, you should try to get the Everburn Blade in Baldur’s Gate 3. This weapon has a damage range of 6-19 on top of the fire damage bonus on successful swings for any character using the sword.

The Everburn Blade does 6-19 slashing damage and can roll 1d4 worth of fire damage.

As you adventure in Baldur’s Gate 3, you’ll have a tough time finding any weapons better than the Everburn Blade. The only real contenders are the Masterworks all the way in the Underdark. So long story short, take down Commander Zhalk.

If you happen to pick up the sword with your companion, then make sure you can find Lae’zel in Baldur’s Gate 3.
