There are plenty of items scattered around the world. Herbs, bodies, hidden lore. And it’s so easy to miss out on them if you’re not careful. So, here’s how to highlight items in Baldur’s Gate 3.

How to Highlight Items in Baldur’s Gate 3

To highlight interactable items in Baldur’s Gate 3, press the ‘ALT’ button on the left side of your keyboard. Doing so will put a yellow glow around objects within your character’s vicinity. Interactable objects that are out of your character’s line of sight will not receive the yellow highlight, even if you press ALT. An item that’s already been investigated will be marked ‘Empty’.

I’m embarrassed to admit it took me hours to figure out how to highlight items around the world. Learn from my mistake, and you’ll be able to find all the hard to see keys, herbs, and lootable items in the world with ease.

That means that you’ll need to consistently be pressing ALT as you move around the map. And I highly suggest that you do, as there are plenty of scattered items around the world.

While consumables might not be necessary early game, hand-crafted potions will become very useful as you start encountering tougher enemies. Likewise, I’ve stumbled across keys and loot by abusing my ALT button that I would never have found otherwise. And the more loot you have, the better armor and weapons you can buy.

If you’re just starting out in Baldur’s Gate 3, you might be wondering if there’s a way to get your character to take off their helmet. You didn’t spend an hour in character customization just to never see their face, right? Fortunately, there is a way to take off that helmet and let your work shine through.
