Everything to Know About Honkai: Star Rail 2.0
As one would expect for an X.0 update, there’s a lot to uncover here with a whole new area being made available. Penacony, the Planet of Festivities, will be added as a new playable area with all of its glory, and we have plenty of newcomers who will welcome us into this new journey.
And in a very Star Rail fashion, this whole area (and the live stream itself) just feels like a fever dream that never ends with beefy trash cans, soda-delivering gorillas and Lovecraftian-like horrors beyond our comprehension wandering around the area. Without further ado, let’s see what awaits us.
Honkai: Star Rail 2.0 Banners
Penacony starts out with a bang with the first half featuring Black Swan, the newest 5-star Wind Nihility character. She’s a member of the Garden of Remembrance and follows Fuli closely, and acts as debuffer DoT character in-game. She’ll be around alongside Dan Heng: Imbibitor Lunae who’s making a comeback.
As for the second part, we have the Masked Fool Sparkle as the newest character. She’s a 5-star Quantum Harmony buffer who bends the game’s rules to her liking with extra Skill Points and turn advances. Her banner runs alongside Jing Yuan, who having his first comeback in this update.
Misha, a new 4-star is also scheduled to be featured in one of these banners, being a new Ice Destruction character that’s also important to the main story.
New Areas & Story Updates
Penacony is set to have various new areas that range from the usual city environment to the mysterious Memory Zone Meme, a Dreamscape-based area where rules are slightly different from normal. New mechanics will be added to both exploration and quest progression, making it a completely new trip from what we’ve experienced in the previous areas.
The main story is scheduled to run from 2.0 to 2.2, with an epilogue scheduled for the 2.3 version later. Black Swan and Sparkle will have a single new Companion Mission for both, which will tell us more about them.
And throughout those new areas and quests, we’re bound to meet some new enemies such as the Lordy Trashcans (yeah, this beefy guy over here) or the Dreamjolt Troupe gang. These will be regular enemies from now on, so expect to see them in endgame modes in the future.
The same can be said of the newest big guys around. Stellaron Hunter Sam is the final member of the previously introduced organization, and he’s one of the new bosses alongside the Something Unto Death, or just “Death” for short. Both will be featured at some point in the story, so get ready for combat.
New Items, Relics, Light Cones and More
As previously informed, all characters from x.0 version onwards will use new items made available in new areas. Players have to farm for these new Harmony, Nihility, and Destruction items for their new characters or just use the Tears of Dreams instead as these are universal. A bit more grindy than expected.
But that’s not all that’s being introduced, as two new Relic sets are also making their debut. Pioneer Diver of Dead Waters is a new set made for dealing with debuffed targets, while Watchmaker, Master of Dream Machinations gives out a new option for Break Effect-focused ones. If you haven’t built the new characters from 1.6 yet, this is your chance!
And why not give them some of the new Light Cones while you’re at it? Seven new options will be added to the Forgotten Hall shop, giving even more flexibility for F2P players to make their best builds. Let’s just hope that this new batch is slightly better than the previous one.
Honkai: Star Rail 2.0 Events and Rewards
The two most important events are surely our usual 10-pull Gift of Odyssey, but we also get 10 extra with Gift of Stellarium for merely logging in during the 2.0 update. Just your casual 20 extra rolls for the new characters.
And if you haven’t got them yet, you also have plenty of chances with the new events such as the Dreamchaser Bulletin, which guides us through the new planet and gets us some rewards for engaging with the new content in it. But there’s also the simpler Penacony Food Fest event, where Trailblazers can help cook some food by delivering its ingredients in exchange for good rewards.
Hanu’s Prison Break will lead us on a voyage into the Dreamscape areas from which we must escape by engaging in various minigames. The final rewards include a free 4-star character of your choice, including Guinaifen, Sampo, Asta, or Yukong.
Other Updates
The game has received a ton of new optimization features, such as Fate’s Atlas where you can see the exact timeline for each of the quests (spoiler: the release order is far from being chronologically correct). Players can also add more characters to their Trailblaze profile for others to use as support for battles, making having a friend list a bit more useful in the long run.
As for Relics, it’s now easier to get rid of unwanted parts with a better optimization system. And if you’re lost on what you should use on each character, a new Recommendation system is also introduced using data from other players, similar to the system Genshin Impact has.
Penacony is almost here, and we can start our voyage on February 5, 2024. Make sure to stock up as many Jades as you can, because new characters just won’t stop dropping!
