Is There New Game Plus in Cyberpunk 2077?

No, there is no new game plus mode in Cyberpunk 2077 currently. If you want to restart Cyberpunk 2077 from the beginning, you’ll have to do it from scratch, meaning you won’t be able to carry over any of your upgrades, perks, gear, items, or levels when starting a new game. You also won’t be able to continue onward once you complete the main story in your first playthrough. Instead, after finishing the story, you’ll be loaded into the game prior to the Point of No Return.

Oddly, you can receive small rewards and extra bonuses for completing various endings. You’ll receive Johnny’s items after finishing The Devil ending, for example, while The Star ending will earn you the Aldecaldos rally jacket. These items won’t carry over into a new game, but you can enjoy them after the game places you back where you were in Night City before the Point of No Return.

So if you want to experience the story a second time or try out different gameplay styles, you must create a new save and start over. None of your progress will carry over to the second save, however this might be for the best if you’re jumping into the game again after the revamped 2.0 update. The game underwent some massive changes since its messy launch, and developers CD Projekt RED recommend starting from scratch for the best experience.

Did the Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 Update Add New Game Plus?

Unfortunately the Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 update did not add new game plus, so you still won’t be able to carry over progress even after that. And the Phantom Liberty DLC doesn’t include new game plus either. Whether future patches will change this is still up for debate.

At the moment, there is no information regarding plans for Cyberpunk 2077 to receive a new game plus update. While 2.0 has numerous changes that overhauled the game’s features, new game plus isn’t on the list, nor is it mentioned as a planned feature for future patches. CD Projekt RED has stated that 2.0 is the last big update for Cyberpunk 2077, so while new game plus isn’t entirely off the table, it seems unlikely to be implemented through a small patch.

Cyberpunk 2077 New Game Plus Mode Mod

If you’re playing on PC, you may be wondering if you can mod the game to implement your own unsanctioned Cyberpunk 2077 new game plus mode. Well, that may be tricky. As far as we can tell, there aren’t a lot of Cyberpunk 2077 new game plus mods, and the ones that do exist tend to skirt the problem in inconvenient ways. On top of that, all the new game plus mods we found were created before the Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 update, so they’re not guaranteed to work like they used to, considering all the major changes the game has gone through.

If you’re hellbent on modding in a Cyberpunk 2077 new game plus, we instead currently recommend using console commands to get your character where you want them to be after starting a new game. The console command mod is optimized to function with the Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 update, unlike current new game plus mods.

So, you’ll be able to give yourself everything you had in the game before, and also change things to play however you would like. Take a look at our guide on the Cyberpunk 2077 console commands mod to learn more about how to implement this.
