Best Counters for 7-Star Charizard Tera Raid Battle Event in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

So you’re going to want to prepare by hyper-training your Pokemon and ensuring you have the EVs in the right place. The easiest step you can take is to make sure you’ve picked the right Pokemon and moveset for the fight. So let’s break down the best counters for Charizard.

Azumarill

Azumarill is an easy choice for Charizard. Azumarill is a little broken right now if you haven’t seen it. The combination of Belly Drum and Play Rough can one-shot most Tera Raids if they are weak to Fairy. Luckily, Charizard’s Tera Type is Dragon, making it extremely weak to Fairy. Azumarill’s typing of Water/Fairy makes it our top counter-pick for Charizard. The biggest worry for players right now is if Charizard will have Metal Claw, giving Fairy types a run for their money.

Flutter Mane

Flutter Mane is an interesting choice here. Its Ghost/Fairy typing makes it a good pick, but more importantly, a Flutter Mane with a Modest Nature can really utilize the Fake Tears/Moon Blast combo. The biggest thing with Flutter Mane is it’s all about the setup. You need to coordinate with your team to make sure you can get the combo off without having your team proc the shield for Charizard. Backup moves for this Pokemon will be Will ‘o Wisp and Mystical Fire to give you more options if your setup goes awry. You also want to give your Flutter Mane a Life Orb to maximize damage. Since you shouldn’t have to attack often if the setup is done correctly, you’ll get the most out of your Life Orb with minimal repercussions.

Sylveon

Sylveon is an excellent option for Charizard. The hidden ability Pixilate will allow all normal moves to benefit from Fairy typing. Give Sylveon Choice Specs to maximize its Special Attack. With Pixelate, you’ll be able to take advantage of heavy-hitting moves like Hyper Beam, Hyper Voice, and Draining Kiss if you need some extra health.

Grimmsnarl

Grimmsnarl can be a massive boon to your team. If you’re playing with a party of four someone should be using Grimmsnarl. Giving a Grimmsnarl taunt will allow it to take the brunt of the damage as the rest of your team sets up for their combos. Grimmsnarl can play support with moves like Reflect, Light Screen, and Thunder Wave. This allows Grimmsnarl to buff the team with defensive actions. When not using support moves, Grimmsnarl should continually hit Spirit Break to lower the Charizard’s Special Attack. Giving it Light Clay will allow your screen to last eight turns instead of five.

Those are the best counters for the 7-Star Tera Raid event Charizard in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. The team composition above can be any mixture of the above four. For more tips, tricks, and guides, be sure to check out Prima Games.
