What are Guardians in Baldur’s Gate 3?

The Guardian in Baldur’s Gate 3 is a character that follows you in the main story and helps explain some of the Mind Flayer tadpole changes that happen as time goes on. Compared to all the other characters in the campaign, your Guardian is the most mysterious, and how you interact with them can be important.

Before getting into what purpose they really serve, you need to customize your Guardian. This option is given directly after customizing your own character for Baldur’s Gate 3. The appearance doesn’t really matter and it will take some time before they really play a role in the story, so it’s all up to your personal preference.

Once you start making progress in the Baldur’s Gate 3 story, the camp will be one of the most important vehicles for cutscenes. The Guardian will first appear when you try to get some sleep, and this continues to take place at random points when your party needs some rest.

Over time, your Guardian will start to explain what the tadpole from the Mind Flayers really is, and why it acts different to the other versions people have seen. You can either embrace their information and utilize your power, or take your own route. It’s all part of the game and the mystery behind the BG3 guardians.
