There’s No Demo Coming For Square Enix’s Tomb Raider

But Crystal Dynamics has a rather good reason for that.

When we got a chance to check out Tomb Raider last week, we found a very riveting experience, in both single player and multiplayer (which we’ll be talking about in a preview very soon).  However, if you want to try the game for yourself when it releases in a couple of months, you’ll have to go with the whole thing, because there aren’t any plans to release a demo for the game.

However, Crystal Dynamics, the game’s developer, has a rather solid reason for that  — they’re trying to avoid story spoilers.  Global brand director Karl Stewart stated via Twitter, “For all those Tomb Raider fans asking.  There are no plans to release a demo of the game pre-launch.  We don’t want to spoil the story.”

He continued, “We’ve weaved such a personal story we don’t believe spoiling it by having you wait a week or so to play on, delivers on our promise.”

A lot of companies go with demos as of late (like EA with its Dead Space 3 model) to promote their games, but we can respect Crystal Dynamics’ decision to hold off in favor of telling the whole story all at once.  Kinda…

Tomb Raider hits stores for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on March 5th.  Not too much longer now.
