Over 70 Titles Added in the ‘Latest and Final’ Xbox Backwards Compatibility List

FPS Boost for Sonic Generations, hell yeah

Since the Xbox One’s rocky launch, Microsoft has slowly built a reputation for being the most “consumer-friendly” of the three big console makers, and a big part of that has been the Backwards Compatibility suite. Today during the Xbox 20 Anniversary stream, the already-large list got another 70-some additions. Other new features were announced for previous games, but perhaps the most impactful part of the news is that these are the final additions.

With more than 70 games added to the Xbox Backwards Compatibility list, it’s now possible to play multiple series all the way through on Xbox One or Series platforms. Today’s update includes Max Payne, Dead or Alive, Skate and F.E.A.R. across both the original Xbox and Xbox 360 libraries. 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand is there too, for all those Blood on the Sand sickos out there.

Like I mentioned earlier, this is the conclusion for Microsoft’s efforts in Xbox backwards compatibility for current platforms. There’s no telling what could happen in the future, but as of the Series S|X generation, the list is complete. The statement from the Xbox Wire reads, “While we continue to stay focused on preserving and enhancing the art form of games, we have reached the limit of our ability to bring new games to the catalog from the past due to licensing, legal and technical constraints.”

This is unfortunate news to be sure, as there are no doubt several excellent Xbox games out there that won’t get to resurface for one reason or another. But as an upside, every game added today comes with Auto HDR support, which has been rolled out on a game-by-game basis before. For FPS boost, 11 of today’s additions will support it, and 26 previously-available games have also been upgraded.
