The Outer Worlds Nintendo Switch Release Date Reset Following COVID-19 Delay

Despite its delay, The Outer Worlds officially comes to Nintendo Switch in just two short weeks!

The Outer Worlds Nintendo Switch release date was put on hold back in March when COVID-19 reached a global scale and quarantines were being put into effect. Because of that, Private Division and Obsidian Entertainment had to then delay the Switch port due to the sudden changeup in work patterns and the unknown. Now, we not only have a release date, we have a release date that’s coming up in just two weeks!

Whenver we talk about The Outer Worlds, the best way we can describe it is that it’s like if Mass Effect and Fallout: New Vegas had a lovechild and then chucked that baby right off to Borderlands’ Pandora, that’s what this game is. Though no romance like many RPGs in this niche, Obsidian did an incredible job when it came to creating amazing characters that felt like family. The news that it’s arriving on the Switch on June 5th is exciting, especially with the portable nature on the game; though we do hope they adjust the text size on the screen because phew, that was rough.

From its wide array of quests – hello, like going on an actual LSD trip to talk to somebody’s dead mom – to the wild twists and turns of the game’s narrative, The Outer Worlds definitely scratched that single-player itch that many of us had, especially since a New Vegas sequel seems forever out of the question.

Being able to take such an immersive experience where your choices matter (and boy, do they matter!) on the go with the Nintendo Switch is going to be an amazing journey and one we here at Prima Games can’t recommend enough. If you haven’t had a chance to check this adventure out, definitely give it a shot; especially if you’re looking for something new to play on the Nintendo hybrid console.

As for the game itself, we were more than a little impressed with the open-world narrative that had some very Fallout-esque vibes. We even gave it a 9.5 out of 10! You can check out our full review here with a small excerpt below:

“The vast array of player options when it comes to narrative choices was very refreshing and was only enhanced by the broad range of entertaining characters I came across in my travels. I would be wrong to say that I did not crack a laugh often or had a smile on my face when engaging in conversation with the characters of The Outer Worlds. This game was able to deliver a great dose of humor to my gameplay and help set the tone for the wackiness you should expect from the universe you are inhabiting. Fortunately, it was never so over the top I had to take a step back and confusingly ask myself why that happened. There was always a great flow to why things occurred or why people were acting a certain way. It all fit like puzzle pieces in the brand new world Obsidian created for all of us to enjoy.”

We can’t say it enough, get this game. It’s great, especially now that so many of us are still in quarantine.

The Outer Worlds is now available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC with a Nintendo Switch launch set for June 5. Thoughts on the Obsidian space venture? Who was your favorite companion? Sound off with your thoughts by hitting us up over on Twitter @PrimaGames!
