The Metal Gear Solid franchise is one of the most recognizable series in video game history. From hiding in boxes back in 1987 to hiding in boxes in 2015 and beyond, players have always enjoyed the stealth action series from Konami and Hideo Kojima. That said, Jordan Vogt-Roberts is currently working on making a live-action film based on the popular games, but it appears that he would also like to create an animated series that would bring back original Snake voice actor David Hayter.

During a recent episode of Gary Whitta’s Animal Talking show, the wonderful late night show that takes place within Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Vogt-Roberts discussed many things, including the Metal Gear Solid film. “This is my baby,” he said. “I’ve been working on this thing for six years, trying to make it so it is the disruptive, punk-rock, true to Metal Gear, true to Kojima-san spirit version of what this is and I will continue to fight for it every day.”

In addition to offering up details about how the movie is going, Vogt-Roberts also noted how he wants to bring the original Big Boss, David Hayter, and the voice cast back together for an animated series and work on it in tandem with the live-action film. Unfortunately, getting the movie itself made is proving to be somewhat difficult. “It’s a difficult thing,” he said. “Getting any movie made in Hollywood is hard. Getting something like Metal Gear made where it is so complex is even harder. That’s why I’m trying to make it for a budget where you can do crazy shit, where you can do the Metal Gear version of it, where it isn’t neutered.”

For those not in the know, Hayter voiced Snake in the Metal Gear series up until 2010’s Peace Walker. Beyond that, actor Keifer Sutherland took on the role in 2015 for The Phantom Pain, after which Kojima and Konami parted ways, with Konami retaining the rights to the Metal Gear series and everything that comes along with it.

There is no denying that Jordan Vogt-Roberts has an undying appreciation for Hideo Kojima and the Metal Gear series, which will hopefully help bring the movie and animated series to fruition at some point in the future. For now, however, we will just have to wait and see if he can not only get the greenlight to make the film, but also get the original voice cast together to create an animated series.

What do you think about this? Would you love to see a Metal Gear animated series featuring the original voice cast? When do you believe the live-action movie will see the light of day?
