Earlier this week, a translation from the CEO of CD Projekt RED went viral suggesting that there were three Cyberpunk games in the works, including a standalone Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer component. It looks like there was a bit of mistranslation going on from the initial report from IGN, something that the studio was quick to rectify regarding multiple Cyberpunk projects.
Polish business site Bankier recently revealed a conversation with CD Projekt RED’s CEO and the studio’s President concerning the alleged three new projects. President Adam Kicinski and CEO Piotr Nielubowicz issued the following statement (thansk to IGN): “Our next big project will be in the ‘Cyberpunk’ universe, and we’re already working on it and treat it as a really big and innovative project for us.”
It turns out that translation was not translated properly, though the studio was quick to provide their own context. According to CD Projekt RED:
“We currently have a total of five teams working on a number of projects, with three focusing on the development of Cyberpunk 2077. These include CD Projekt RED Warsaw and Krawkow, who are handling the main game, as well as the Wroclaw studio, where around 40 industry specialists are engaged in technology R&D … A separate, dedicated team at the Warsaw STudio is handling the development of Gwent. The final team is Spokko, which is currently working on a yet announced mobile project.”
Having so many teams work on this makes sense, the open-world RPG is beyond massive with so many different choice elements thrown in. This studio is also known for quality over quantity, so making sure all hands are on deck for a project of this side is sensical and comforting.
As for the game itself, Cyberpunk 2077 is making its grand debut on April 16 next year on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
