Borderlands Animated Short Film Coming Later This Year

The new Vault Hunter announcement may not be all that Gearbox has coming to PAX East.

Borderlands has been an immensely popular series for 2K Games and Gearbox Software, with the release of many two games and multiple downloadable chapters that have been hugely popular with fans. Now it looks like the series is going to the movies.

2K Games and Gearbox have announced that they are partnering with the Academy of Art to form a new group called the Borderlands Cooperative, which will help create a new animated Borderlands short film.

Though the focus of the film hasn’t been discussed, we know that the students of the Academy of Art will write stories based around the Borderlands universe that will be turned over to Gearbox for storyboarding. From there, a winning script will be chosen and the team will be able to complete the film project. The animators will also get interviewed for an internship at Gearbox Software to boot.

The film is scheduled to release later this year, and Gearbox will probably have more to say about it this coming Sunday at its PAX East panel. Here you thought were just going to attend to hear about a new Vault Hunter…oh, and the free pizza.

Borderlands 2 is available now for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
