5 Awesome Things to Do In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Light up those fish tanks

Whether you’re waiting to submit fish findings to the appropriate source or just really like those aquatic vibes for your island, by now most players know that when you set the fish down on the ground (not let it back into the water), said fish automatically populates in a fully functional fish tank. This makes for some pretty awesome decorating tips or you can do what I did and line them up to make a creative take on a kitchen booth, but what some don’t know is that these tanks light up for some additional ambiance.

With the tank where you want it, to add a little more flair to the aesthetic you can face the fish tank in question and tap A to turn on the tank light. You can turn the light off in the same fashion while making your island scream aquatic fashion at the same time.

Take a poo

Weird, yes, kind of cool? Oddly, also yes. That’s right, as you expand your house, so does your in-game Avatar’s functionality so when you finally get that bathroom of your dreams, you can emulate real-life with an adorable twist. Eat fruit, sit down, “and that takes care of that.” It’s that simple. And if you need help passing those bowel movements, just think about all the money you still owe Tom Nook! That’ll scare it right out of you.

You’re welcome.

Build the island of your dreams

Through crafting and purchasing from the Nook Store and the machine inside of Resident Services, there are tons of ways players can make the island of their dreams. You can remodel entire pieces of the island, you can create bridges to make it more accessible, add pools, chairs, entertainment – even vending machines!

Players have been making some incredible creations, much like this Hyrule recreation we previously covered, and with the ability to import unique designs from other players, the world really is your cooly decorated oyster.

Become a time traveler

Doctor … Who? Actually, yes, because there is technically a blue Call Box you can purchase in-game with Nook miles but regardless of other sci-fi references, you can actually time travel in Animal Crossing New Horizons, just not through official means. This ability has been around for a long time with this franchise and has become a very divisive topic for players that see it as cheating.

Don’t like the Bunny Event? Fast-forward. Want to skip night time? Fast-forward. Want to correct your time-jump escapades and go back to real-time? Fast-backward. You can do this by switching your Switch’s clock back 7-10 days but be warned: this action can have consequences.

Some of these consequences can result in spoiled turnips, which can majorly harsh your Stalk Market game, overgrown weeds, and glitches in some of the in-game events and traveling villagers. Some of the consequences are still being found, so just be wary before making too many crazy jumps in-game.

Make money literally grow on trees

Another series-favorite is the money tree trick! You know that saying that money doesn’t grow on trees? Pfff, that’s what non-Animal Crossing players say because money, or Bells, do, in fact, grow on trees if you know where to look. When playing the game, pay special attention to the ground. You’ll see tiny x incisions in the grass that appear to be glowing. Dig that light right up and voila! 1,000 Bells! Now, what to do what to do.

You can claim the Bells and add them to your wallet immediately or you can play investor and re-bury them. Bury the 1K in the ground and three days later, 3K will grow in its place. That, or play it extremely smart and bury 10,000 Bells, which is the limit, to see 30,000 take their place 3 days later. If only real life were this simple …

There are so many amazing things to do in Animal Crossing: New Horizons because the sky is absolutely the limit. Catch shooting stars, craft incredible looks, invite friends over to stargaze or have fun times at the beach – do whatever you want because Animal Crossing: New Horizons is all about you and having fun.
