When Is the Best Time to Sell Turnips In Animal Crossing: New Horizons?

Turnips are all the rage in Animal Crossing: New Horizons but for those looking to make it big with the Stalk Market (heh), there are a few things you should know. From when to buy turnips, to the best days to sell, here’s what you need to know about the turnips market in Animal Crossing: New Horizons and when is the best time to sell.

Turn Turnips Into Thousands of Bells!

Players are noticing that some online are selling turnips for big bells, while others like myself seem to be stuck with a pretty shifty economy. So is there a trick to the madness? Yes, there is!

There is a way to make thousands upon thousands of bells by flipping turnips, an in-game item that can only be purchased through the vendor that appears on the island every Sunday. While there is a more specific trick, the most important thing to know is that turnips do spoil and dramatically drop in value.

How to Buy Turnips

The turnips can be bought individually or in bundles from Daisy Mae. She will arrive every Sunday at 5 am and will wander around until about noon. You can buy as many as you as you like, but you’re telling going to want to stock up (or stalk up) in prep to sell.

So how long does it take for turnips to spoil? A week, but some who use the time-traveling hack has noted that sometimes reversing back a day can trigger them to be spoiled as well, so beware. For those that like to time-hop, it’s recommended to store them in your home, though they won’t fit in your home’s storage.

For myself, I use my backroom as a storage area so that if anyone visits my island they won’t be scooping up my goods!

When Should I Sell Turnips?

As a rule of thumb, you can’t sell on Sundays, the option isn’t even available when you go up to Timmy and Tommy. That being said, you can go the following Monday, though we recommend asking what the turnip prices are for the day before committing to selling. The brothers will say exactly how much they are willing to pony up for this hot commodity and it’s then that you can make the decision on if you want to take the chance on selling the net day.

The average price is about 120-170 bells per turnip, though some have reported getting over 600 per piece. So what’s the trick? First: ask twice. The prices will vary depending on the time of day. Each island has a sell pattern, so asking twice a day consistently will help players navigate their own buyer’s market.

There are “spikes” in the market as well, though the most dramatic spike that benefits players is Wednesday. Wednesday’s prices are always going to be higher but they generally double on Wednesday nights. So sell those turnips before 8 PM and thn after go star gazing or something equally profitable at night.

While the Wednesday spike is tried and true, that doesn’t stop random patterns from emerging, so it’s recommended to always check in with the Nook brothers to see if you can luck into some special pricing deals.
