Every month, PS Plus members get free games, but which ones have been the most popular? To celebrate 10 years of the PlayStation Plus membership, Sony recently detailed which freebies were the biggest hits in terms of downloads made. This data comes hot on the heels of the free PS Plus games for July being revealed earlier this week

The PS Plus membership program has shifted a lot through the years, including the divisive change from including older titles in favor of two current-gen freebies instead. Back when WipeOut HD made its debut as the first free PS Plus game to be offered, the program has continued to evolve into one of several features that makes this membership worth it for dedicated PlayStation players.

Most Popular Free PS Plus Games Over the Last 10 Years

Here are the most downloaded freebies over the last 10 years:

  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered
  • Sonic Forces
  • Shadow of the Colossus
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 3
  • Destiny 2

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Shadow of the Colossus, and Sonic Forces were all offered in March, though Modern Warfare was March of 2019. Apparently, March is a month where Sony feels particularly generous, which is always nice to see as a player.

While a few of those picks were online multiplayer, here are the most downloaded titles for online play specifically. This list also has Grand Theft Auto 5 as the reigning champion, which should be of no surprise to literally anyone ever:

  • Grand Theft Auto 5
  • Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 3
  • Destiny
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 4

With over 41.5 million users and over 1000 games offered, for free, during the PS Plus’s life cycle, it will be interesting to see where this membership goes with the next generation. With talk of backwards compatibility, something that only Xbox has had up until this point, we hope that Sony goes back to the model of offering 2 current games and 2 older-gen games for those that aren’t quite ready yet to part with the past.
