Once you start exploring outside the Grasslands in LEGO Fortnite, you will notice that some materials are tougher to harvest, such as the wood inside caves. However, bringing the right tool for the job will eliminate any issues you have in collecting resources.

LEGO Fortnite: How to Cut the Knotroot in Caves

To collect the Knotroot wood from caves, you need to have an uncommon rarity Forest Axe or higher. The color of your axe can tell you exactly what rarity you currently have. Green items are uncommon, and grey is considered common. Any other rarity in LEGO Fortnite is above green. So, as long as the axe isn’t grey, it can cut down the wood in caves.

If you don’t already have an uncommon Forest Axe, you need to upgrade your Crafting Bench. Once you reach the second tier on the bench, you gain access to uncommon versions of tools like the axe or the pickaxe. Just like the wood in the cave, the marble stones that line the walls will also need a pickaxe above common rarity. I recommend having at least one backup of each tool before you begin exploring.

Once you have an uncommon Forest Axe in LEGO Fortnite, you can head back to any cave you find and cut down the gnarled roots on the walls. In the Grasslands, the wood in the cave will provide you with Knotroot. Like the other tools we needed, Knotroot is considered an uncommon rarity of resources.

Your goal for the game is to continue climbing the rarity ladder until you have the best gear for the toughest environments. Or you can always just focus on building villages. But you’ll still need rare resources for the best-looking structures, which requires some rarity climbing.

Before you start cave delving, make sure you cook some food to keep you strong against skeletons and Rollers.
