Tears of the Kingdom: Thundra Plateau Cave Guide in TotK

This quick guide will help you solve the puzzle to access Thundra Plateau cave in Tears of the Kingdom

It’s been a few months since The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was released and, if you haven’t already, you might be on a quest to discover and explore every nook and cranny in the map, including the multiple new caves. There’s a lot of reasons why you might want to visit all the caves; such as collecting Bubbul Gems, Brightbloom Seeds, or pieces of armor.

Though it might sound easy just walking and climbing around, the truth is that some caves are harder to spot than others, and, in the case of the Thundra Plateau cave, it’s not even enough to know it’s there. But worry not, we’re about to dive into how to get access to the Thundra Plateau cave in Tears of the Kingdom and retrieve what’s in it.

Thundra Plateau Cave Location and Entrance in Tears of the Kingdom

The first thing you’ll want to do is to warp close to the location. Lindor’s Brow Skyview Tower (The one west of Hyrule Castle) or any of the shrines nearby are good options. Glide to the center of the plateau where four pillars on a chunk of land will most certainly stand out from everything else.

In between these pillars is some kind of stone trapdoor. This is the entrance to the cave and, to open it, you need to connect the shadows of the northern and southern pillars (you might want to have your minimap fixed north).

The easiest way to do this is to chop down some of the trees in the area and connect at least four of them with the Ultrahand to make a super-long log. Once you have it, you’ll want to wait until the sun is in the right position so you can use your long creation to cast a shadow from the south to the north pillar. This will be at noon and only until 1 PM, so there’s a relatively short period of time when you’ll be able to open the door. If you mess something up, don’t worry, you can always sit by a campfire and try again.

If this method is successful, a short cutscene showing the stone trapdoor opening will play. Hooray! We can make it into the cave now.

Inside the Thundra Plateau cave

This cave is small but holds one cool treasure. All you need to do is keep going forward and you’ll find a chest containing the Mask of Awakening, a piece of armor that will give you the appearance of Link in the Link’s Awakening remake. It doesn’t do anything else, but it looks quirky.

To collect the Bubbul Gem, you will need to break a stone wall on the ceiling. There are bomb flowers inside the cave, so as long as you’ve got a bow and arrow, you’re covered!

Now that you’ve got the Mask of Awakening, why not grab a new weapon? Check out our guide on how to get the Dusk Claymore in Tears of the Kingdom.
