Like anything else in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, there are a few different ways that you can approach cold resistance and the ability to stay warm. Whichever one works best for you is also the best method for Link and we’ll cover all of your options here so you can prepare.

How to Resist Cold in Tears of the Kingdom (TOTK)

Eating spicy food or wearing warm armor is the best way to resist the cold and stay warm in Tears of the Kingdom. As soon as you reach any cold climate, you have to make sure Link can stay warm or he will shiver and start to lose health. When I first reached the snowy island, I tried to brave some of the cold, but my meter at the bottom right quickly changed and my health was quickly running out. I ate some spicy peppers and the problem was solved for a few seconds.

Using food recipes is your best method of staying warm, especially in the early stages of the game. By using a cooking pot and combing ingredients like bird meat and spicy peppers, you can rely on recipes that provide cold resistance for minutes at a time in Tears of the Kingdom.

If you don’t want to use food, you can always make a fire as a last resort. Any kind of fire will do, but building a campfire is the most effective. Throw logs and some flint down, then hit the flint with a metal weapon to spark the fire.
