Older Xbox users may have a few difficulties, needless to say.

Starfield is the next flagship title from Bethesda, who hasn’t released a new triple-A experience since Fallout 76 back in 2018. That isn’t even including new franchises, which haven’t been a thing for Bethesda since (technically) Fallout 3 in 2008. Naturally, a lot of people are excited, and that includes those on older hardware. Here’s whether Starfield will be playable on Xbox One consoles when it releases.

Can Starfield Be Played on Xbox One?

Technically, playing Starfied on the Xbox One is possible through the use of XCloud, Microsoft’s cloud streaming service. You’ll need Xbox Game Pass Ultimate to access it, but you’ll be able to start the minute it releases if you plan to play this way. If you’re unaware, playing through this will be like streaming a session on Xbox Series X|S to your Xbox One, taking up more bandwidth from your internet but allowing you to play on older hardware.

As for playing Starfield natively on your Xbox One, that is unfortunately impossible. Starfield requires a hell of a lot of processing power to where no matter which quality setting you play it at on the Series X|S, you’ll always get 30 FPS. If you were to try and run Starfield on the Xbox One, the game would likely fail to even run. Even if it did, the insane bugs from the console trying to handle so much would make the experience unplayable.

It’s a shame you won’t be able to play Starfield natively on the Xbox One, but it does make sense. It’s a game that’s being touted as a technical marvel with some incredible graphics and requirements, making the best use of the next-gen hardware for one of the first times since the Xbox Series X|S release.
