WoW SoD: How to Get Gnarled Harpoon in Classic Season of Discovery (Sniper Training and Quick Strike Runes)

The Harpoon on the Skull

Players need to get creative to get their Runes in the WoW Season of Discovery servers, and the Sniper Training Rune shows this very well. Night Elves need to obtain the Gnarled Harpoon and use it to get Sniper Training and Quick Strike, and here’s what you need to do for that.

Before going for this Rune, ensure you’re at least around Level 16 since you’ll be fighting some powerful Elites in the area. Call some friends too if you can, but you should be fine alone as long as you’re not under-leveled.

The Gnarled Harpoon is located on the Darkshore map, next to where Night Elfs begin their journey. After leaving Teldrassil with the Hypogriph (accessed by entering the portal in Darnassus) and reaching Auberdine, head North through the beach until you reach the area shown in the image, where you’ll find the Harpoon stuck on a giant turtle’s eye skeleton.

Interact with it to grab it, and now head to your next target: the underwater sea Elite monster Paxnozz. Paxnozz wanders around the northern sea of the beach, so take a dip and start looking for it, but be careful with the other powerful Elites around. Don’t get surrounded by them unless you want to do a fast trip back to the Spirit Healer.

Once you find Paxnozz, use the Gnarled Harpoon in your inventory on it, then proceed to slay the creature as you can. Paxnozz is Level 20, so be careful! If you did it all correctly, Paxnozz should drop the Rune of Sniper or Rune of Quick Strike, depending if you’re Warrior or Hunter, as both classes use the same method for getting this one.

Sniper Training is engraved on your chest, while Quick Strike works for your gloves. Open a slot for those if they really complement your build (and they probably do, since Runes are wonderfully strong) and be happy with your newfound powers. You deserve it.
